Pig Heart Dissection Lab - February 4th

Today in Class 5C we had a great experience dissecting pigs' hearts!!!






































We had four special guests (Class 5C parents) to come in and help us with the process. Special thanks to Mrs.Kelsall (our school nurse), Mr. MacRae, Mr. Gulstene and Dr. Bird.
















Class 5C had a wonderful ("non-barfing") time cutting open pig hearts...fun! We learned so much and we are so thankful that we had the opportunity to do such an amazing activity. Many of the students enjoyed touching and cutting the pig hearts, though some others felt a little sick.












Overall it was an incredible experience!

Science World Field Trip - January 7th

Today we went to Science World to learn more about the human body. The first activity we did was to watch the IMAX film The Human Body. We loved watching it. From there we went down to the snack area and had our snacks. Then we went to explore the second floor, and toured the Body Works and Eureka exhibits!!After that we went to our Grossology workshop with Chris. He showed us a video of the internal organs and taught us more about our internal organs. Then Alex G. and I had a pooping contest in which we had to push a marble down a narrow tube. At the end we created our own bags of snot !!! From there we went to explore more of the second floor and that's where our experience ended.

Legion Contest Winners - January 6th

This morning in assembly we received some wonderful certificates and cheques from kind representatives from the Royal Canadian Legion. We all enjoyed writing our poems and essays on such an interesting topic.

Alison says: "I was very thrilled when I got called up to the front of the assembly."

"I was surprised to know that I won second place in the junior essay!" exclaimed Madeline.

"It was an amazing experience!" commented Charlotte.

''Being told I had won third place in the junior poem was an outstanding goal accomplished," said Peter.

We'd like to thank Mrs. Block, Mr. Lyle and Mr. Cochrane for joining us at this morning's Assembly and making these fabulous presentations.

5C's Christmas PJ Party - December 15th

Yesterday we had our Christmas class party. Our party was a pj party. We all had loads of fun. We also traded Christmas cards with our buddies in 2N.
After that we came back to the classroom and traded Secret Santa gifts. We all received great gifts. We also donated food to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
We watched the movie Santa Buddies, starring our very own Sophia. We had a vast amount of cookies, hot chocolate and popcorn!

Winter Concert - December 10th

This morning we performed our Winter Concert Dress Rehearsal for the school. We had a blast and are really looking forward to performing for our parents tonight!

Festive Store - December 1st

5C went to the Festive Store today. We had so much fun looking for gifts for our families, pets and other special people. There were lots of wonderful presents to choose from. The helpers were fantastic and we even got to meet Santa!

Mrs. Claus gave us mini candycanes when we left the store. The candycanes tasted like peppermint. We had a terrific time at the Festive Store! Merry Christmas!

Canwest Spelling Bee, Third Round: November 12, 2009

As soon as we walked into the Library and took our seats, it was pretty safe to say we were all a little bit nervous. It was a great feeling hearing the little ding of the bell and knowing you'd be safe until the next round.
















In the end, seven of us were still standing and will be moving on to the next round at Morven in early December. I think everyone had a great time enjoying the experience and they are looking forward to trying again next year.

Congratulations to Alex Z. and Peter who will compete in the fourth round!
