Hallowe'en Party - October 30th

On Friday, October 30th we had a spooktacular Hallowe'en party! There were lots of fun activities such as "make a monster" and making cool masks.
We had yummy food brought in by our moms! We had some spookiful edible bugs made by Mrs. Filewych and a giant watermelon brain with a lot of fruit made by Mrs. Park.
Mrs. Brown's haunted house was soooo scary it made our insides churn! Over all, it was a spooky, frightful and fun Hallowe'en party!

Autumn Lanterns - October 28th

Today we woke up 10 minutes earlier than usual to collect different kinds of leaves from our yards. We brought these leaves to school while they were fresh.

We got some colourful candle wax and arranged the leaves and the candle wax on sheets of wax paper. Ms. Clark and Ms. Meglaughlin ironed the wax paper sheets together for each of us. If we wanted, we could add the candle wax, too. After, we made the borders and handles. It was a lot of fun making the autumn lanterns.

Pumpkin Carving - October 26th

Today, the class of 5C had the honour of carving pumpkins for the Capilano Harvest Festival. We were all very excited when the truck that brought our pumpkins arrived.














We carved fun, scary and intricate patterns onto the joyful jack-o-lanterns. Five parents came to help us enjoy the fabulous festivities of the pumpkin carving.


































Overall, it was one of the most fun things 5C has done this year!

Fort Langley Photo Story - October 19th

This photo story was produced by Tatiana (5G), Sharlene (5BR), Parvin (5D), Amber (5C) and Simon (5S). Congratulations to these five students for creating this memorable project!

Fort Langley - October 6th

Today the 44 students of 5C and 5S went on a field trip to Fort Langley.

We panned for gold, carried fur bundles on our backs, and wrote with old-fashioned pens.

We visited the oldest building in British Columbia, we watched a blacksmith make an iron hook, and we learned how to build a house without using nails.





When we saw the blacksmiths make coat hooks, they made the iron red hot in the open fire and
then shaped the iron into place.












We toured the servants' quarters and we learned why the people came to Fort Langley, how they travelled there, and what their jobs were at the Fort.

Fort Langley was a great experience and we learned a lot of interesting information!
